Great Ways to Use Essential Oils for Your Dog

Here are some simple ways to prevent your dog from developing health problems. Essential oil products from Young Living are a natural way to promote health, ward off pests naturally, and help prevent tooth decay. Keep in mind that not all brands of essential oils are processed to Young Living standards, and if you use another brand, you may not get the benefits and could be harmful to your pet.

I’m a dog breeder and was able to test essential oils and see the results. I have taken many classes, read many books, and listened to countless podcasts on essential oils. I had the pleasure of talking to some holistic vets who use essential oils. I tried the suggested apps and experienced firsthand whether these remedies are good solutions.

These solutions pack many benefits without the costly veterinary bills or side effects of artificial products. Here are some Young Living products I’ve tested. The result exceeded my expectations. A great benefit is that I no longer use unnecessary poisons on my dogs or absorb poisons myself.

Purification is an essential oil blend made by Young Living that is great for cleaning your dog’s ears. Put a drop of Purifying Liquid on the palm of your hand, rub the end of a cotton swab in the drop, and clean your dog’s ears. Repeat the process for the other ear with the new end of the swab. Repeat daily until the swab is free of debris. It kills ear mites instantly. Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM, performed the preform test and witnessed the death of the ear mites firsthand as she performed the decontamination on microscope slides. A detoxifying diffuser or spray on their bedding will kill pests, sanitize and keep your home critter-free without the use of harsh chemicals.

Lavender is a natural solution for tear stains. Once daily, place one drop in the palm of your hand and apply the drops by rubbing your index finger on the bridge of your dog’s upper nose, just below the eyes. Lavender unclogs eye ducts and kills bacteria that cause tearing.

I have had several dogs with eye injuries from hunting, interacting with other pets, or other issues. Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM, told me that a dog is a last-chance candidate for eye problems. She mixes lavender with water and has had success with her eye problems. I mix 8 drops of lavender solution with 8 oz of steamed distilled water and a packet of sodium chloride/sodium bicarbonate usp grade. A packet is ½ tsp. USP grade sodium chloride/sodium bicarbonate is available at Walgreen or online; it is used in neti pot sinus rinses. It is an emulsifier that prevents solutions from separating, since oil and water do not mix. If no emulsifier is used, the solution must be shaken well before each use. The mixture is similar to eyewash for humans. Put the mixture in a glass spray bottle. Spray the solution in the affected eye 2-3 times daily and watch for healing to begin.

Curly, our English Springer Spaniel’s eyes became very large in 2006 at the age of 8 in a hunting accident. The eyes are getting bigger and look like they are about to burst. I’m sure he needs surgery and may be blind. I started using the solution and his eyes returned to normal size and the cataracts became smaller. awesome.

This solution repels pests, soothes skin problems and makes their coat soft. It also relieves sore muscles. I mix 1 drop of lavender and 1 drop of peppermint into 1 oz of steamed distilled water. Then add one drop of Young Living Body Wash as an emulsifier to 6 oz of water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution weekly or as needed, then massage the dog’s spine upwards with your fingers. Your dog will love this app.

Thieves is another blend made by Young Living that is great for preventing cavities. In a 4 oz glass spray bottle, I mix 2 drops of thieves into 1 oz of steamed distilled water. I use this solution nightly to spray on my dog’s upper gums and teeth. Lift the upper lip on either side of the dog’s mouth and spray the solution on the teeth. Thief kills the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Make your dog’s immune system stronger with Thieves, a natural antibiotic. Antibiotics are made from medicines that kill both bad and good bacteria. If you use artificial antibiotics, you will need to restore the good bacteria with probiotics like Life 5, yogurt, kefir, etc. The Thieves solution is a cheaper, easier, and healthier way to brush daily or take your dog to the vet for the recommended 6-month dental cleaning.

Start educating yourself by reading labels, then look up ingredients in your browser’s search bar on your computer. I bathe my animals with Young Living Animal Scent Shampoo. It contains essential oils to cleanse and repel pests without the harmful side effects of other pet shampoos. It does not contain any carcinogenic ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate found in most shampoos. It can be used as needed, not just every 30 days like most pet shampoos.

Another great product from Young Living is Animal Balm. I use it all the time for wounds. Hounds get nicks and cuts while hunting. I put it on their sores and their wounds heal faster. Great to apply after dewclaw or tail butt removal. It speeds up the healing process and prevents infection. Since I need to wash my hands frequently, I apply the ointment to my cuticles at night; the ointment healed my dry hands faster than other products I’ve used in the past. Plus, there are no toxic substances of any kind.

Another great product is the Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner. I use it all the time to clean out my kennel. Mix 30 oz. water to 1 oz. The thieves put the household cleaner in a spray bottle and sprayed it on the kennel. It kills germs and germs, and it’s safe even for dogs to lick their paws. I don’t need to remove their water or food, thieves are a natural product that is safe to ingest. I don’t need to rinse or let it air dry. It doesn’t burn my lungs or irritate my skin. I move the dogs away while I spray the solution; it has a cinnamon smell that irritates their eyes, and the mist only takes a few seconds.
