Disney Baltic Cruise

I want to explain what my family and I do every day while we enjoy our family vacation aboard the Disney Magic;

Day 1; We arrive at the port in Copenhagen, Denmark around 1:00pm, but you can board the ship as early as 11am. We gave ourselves 3 hours to board (the ship sails at 4pm) so we could explore Copenhagen before leaving for our holiday. The day included us exploring the boat and signing up for the kids club. One of the amazing things about Disney is their kids club. They have rooms for kids of all ages to hang out, participate in activities and make new friends. This gives parents a chance to be alone and know their child is safe and having fun. After the cruise, everyone gathered on deck 9 to set sail and enjoy the “Mickey Sailing Party”. During this time, everyone waved to the passengers who stayed in Copenhagen and danced with Mickey and his friends on stage. After that, we headed to the theater performance at 6:30 pm. Depending on your requested dinner time (6:00pm or 8:30pm), you will see a theater show at 6:30pm or 8:30pm, the opposite time you eat dinner. I absolutely love these shows. Disney does a great job of coming up with themes and special shows to entertain audiences.

Day 2 was “Sea Day”, meaning we didn’t stop anywhere. We enjoyed watching a Disney movie at the Buena Vista theater, attending a game at the Vibe (teen club), having lunch at the Cabanas (buffet on deck 9), enjoying another theater performance, and having dinner at one of the three rotating restaurants (Lumiere’s, Animators Palate, or Cariocas.) Depending on your key card, you’ll rotate between these three different delicious restaurants. This evening includes a formal dinner. This means we are encouraged to dress fancy (like dresses and skirts or men’s suits.) A day at sea is, in my opinion, one of the best days on board. Disney offers guests a choice of Cabanas (a buffet on the 9th floor), Lumiere’s (one of 3 rotating restaurants), or one of the fast food restaurants on the 9th floor. Fast food restaurants include Daisy’s Delights (a sandwich, salad, fruit and cookie stand), Pete’s Boiler Bites (hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, etc…American style stand) and Pinocchio’s Pizza (a pizza stand you can get here Make any pizza you like.) Disney Magic creates Grade A food all day long and ensures fast cooking while maintaining incredible flavor. Now, food isn’t the only reason I absolutely love day trips at sea. While the food is a key factor, Disney provides their guests with news articles every night, allowing them to see what activities are brewing for them the next day (you can also choose to use their Disney Cruise Ship app to view activities and daily menu.) This activity sheet is always filled with karaoke, new movies, fitness games and more during days at sea. Disney makes sure their guests always have something fun and new to do on board, knowing that some might get bored with nowhere to dock.

On day 3, we stopped in Tallinn, Estonia. We arrived and walked Tallinn Old Town which gave us a real insight into their culture. We also visited the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, the Estonian Maritime Museum (an old prison) and the Fat Margarets Tower (a large building next to the ship). As most of you know, the weather in Northern Europe is pretty harsh. Knowing this, I packed a range of different outfits and layers. Tallinn stayed in the 60s for most of our visit, which was great. I wore leggings (lululemon), a tank top (lululemon), a long sweater (Madewell) and tennis shoes (New Balance.) My dad and brother were limited to shorts and shirts, so it really depends on what you can afford to be cool weather. I’m a little girl so the wind is a bit chilly for me, explaining the long sweaters.

On day 4, we stop in St. Petersburg, Russia. On this day, we decided to have a bus driver and a guide (Alla Tours.) There are multiple churches (e.g. the Church on Spilled Blood) and palaces (Catherine Palace) in St. Petersburg, so we needed someone to help us find our way. I recommend getting yourself a guide you trust (such as Alla Tours) as during our visit to Catherine Palace (and some other city monuments) the queues went around the building to get in but our guide found a way to skipMore It only took 15 minutes to line up and sneak us in. Like Tallinn, St. Petersburg has weird weather. It was cold in the morning and I had to wear a scarf (Madewell) and a heavy coat (Madewell), but later in the day the temperature warmed up (maybe 67 degrees Fahrenheit) which left me with only a light raincoat (Spice) , because St. Petersburg is indeed watered quite often. All on board tonight at 11:30, so no theater show. That means, you can choose to stay in Russia until 11:30pm, or come early for dinner and not show up.

On day 5, we stopped in Helsinki, Finland. The day was a bit short as it was all around 5pm on board. We decided to take a merry-go-round tour of the town and then take a boat to explore a small island with Finnish history (Suomenlinna). We didn’t realize how big and historic Suomenlinna is, so we couldn’t see all of its rich history. If you decide to visit this part of Finland, I recommend spending multiple hours here. This evening includes a semi-formal dinner. This meant we had to look a little prettier than usual at dinner to be photographed. Disney doesn’t require you to dress up for any of the cruise nights, but we strongly encourage you to do so on these special nights. I’m wearing a miniskirt (Abercrombie & Fitch), tank top (American Eagle) and sandals (Tory Burch).

On day 6, we stop in Stockholm, Sweden. The day is even shorter as it’s 3:30pm on all boats. We decided to visit the Armory and the Royal Palace next to it. If you’re traveling with any boys or men, I recommend a visit to the Armory. My brother and father were very cool to see all the military armor, weaponry and royal carriages. We also bought tickets for the Hop on Hop off bus but it was very busy and packed (due to all boats docking in Stockholm that day) and I wouldn’t recommend buying tickets for this bus in this town. Tonight Disney included “Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Deck Party,” which meant we all went up to deck 9 before dinner to watch the Frozen characters dance and sing on stage. Disney is also changing up their theater shows tonight. Instead of their normal Broadway style show, they gave us a comedy show.

Day 7 is our last day, which means another “day at sea”. This day was a lot like day 2, except the cruise included activities like booking all the memories and jack jack’s diaper dash (a race between babies who can crawl). Normally my family and I prefer to have lunch at Cabanas (the all-you-can-eat buffet is always good), but on this day, my dad and I decided to try Lumieres for lunch. I had the Cuban sandwich and veal parmesan with pasta (must have two entrees on this day) and my dad had the shrimp and pad thai. Both meals were great! Once again, Disney has found a way to shock us. Towards the end of the day we enjoyed the last show (Disney Dream) and had dinner at Animators Palate (one of three rotating restaurants). Once it’s all over, the cruise ends the day with a “real soon” party held in the lobby atrium on deck 3. The show includes waving goodbye to all the characters on board and a badge trading session (where all guests on board gather to exchange their Disney badge.)

Day 8 is our last morning on board, which means you can have breakfast where you had dinner the night before, or in the Cabanas (buffet on deck 9). For me and my family, we ate at Animators Palate once more. After eating the last meal on board, everyone disembarked and went to the airport to fly home. Disney allows all of their guests to eat and explore the ship before departure, which is fine since we were in no rush to disembark for new guests to start their vacation.
