Baby Diapers – How to Change Your First Baby’s Diaper

Changing diapers is indeed the most dreaded of all baby care activities. In fact, diapers have become so simple over the years. Whether you use disposable or cloth diapers, you’re sure to be happy that they’re easier to use and retain more fluid with less leakage. However, with all the developments in diapers, first-time moms still find the need to rely on “My First Baby” books. This is simply natural and the feelings of doubt are quite reasonable.

The New Age Diapers

Right now, there are no more horrible days of swinging babies and diapers. For now, you just need to put up with your fussy baby. Cloth diapers have also proven to be incredibly useful. Many brands on the market are now known as “all in one” (AIO). They are more related to a disposable diaper because they can be secured with Velcro straps.

Disposable diapers are also available everywhere. In fact, there are a plethora of brands that you can choose from with varying qualities and prices.

How to Use Diapers

No matter what diaper you choose, cloth or disposable, the process of changing diapers is very much the same.

1) Assemble Your Supplies

Gather all the essential items before placing your baby on the table. With this method, you will avoid all the safety hazards that normally occur from the need to leave the baby all alone to retrieve the items you forgot to arrange. Untie the diaper ahead of time and lay everything on the table. Be sure that all the things you require are arranged and completely within your reach.

2) Positioning The Baby

Generally, moms allocate a separate area meant only for changing diapers. This could be as simple as a changing pad placed on top of a table, or as specific as a diaper changing station that is fully equipped with shelves and cabinets necessary to accommodate all the basic supplies.

When you are on the table, make sure you use a strap to hold the baby down and prevent the risks of falling. Make sure you don’t leave your baby all alone on the table. As soon as you secure the baby on the changing pad, take off the old diaper. Also, don’t pull the diaper off the baby’s bottom just yet. This gives you some margin of safety otherwise the cold air might cause the baby to pass more urine or stool.

3) Cleaning The Baby

Now grab the baby’s ankles and gradually lift his or her bottom up. Start cleaning the bottom part using the wet wipes you made earlier. If you come across a dirty area, you can use the front side of the old diaper to clean the mess. When you are done cleaning the baby’s skin, pull out the dirty diaper and wipes from under the baby and put them somewhere.

4) Changing Your Baby’s Diaper

Place the clean diaper under the baby and lock the straps. For newborns, it is recommended to fold the upper part of the diaper. With this method, you will make room for the umbilical cord. Don’t be afraid to slide the diaper slowly. Just picture the mess it would make if it were too free.

5) It’s Time To Clean Up

After you’re done changing the baby’s diaper and putting on some cute clothes, take the dirty diaper and criss-cross the straps to turn it into a little ball. Put it in a bin that is only meant for diapers. Make sure to use hand sanitizer or any liquid decontamination before holding your baby.

In fact, these are clearly some of the basic things you need to be taught about questions like “how to change my first baby’s diaper?” You are certainly free to do more research if you need to. Also, be sure to trust your instincts every time you’re caring for your baby because not all parenting rules work well enough with every condition.
