Taking paid surveys is not easy, the first year I spent my first year looking for legitimate paid survey sites and learning the tricks. I signed up for over 600 sites that claimed to be legit surveys, only to find out that they were scams, spam, or trying to sell me online survey site listings. I ended up only joining 10 legitimate sites.

I ended up doing more and more research and found over 300 legitimate market research sites worth joining. Then I created a site dedicated to theguruseye, a legitimate paid survey site, and started helping other people so they didn’t have to go through the same thing.

Before you decide to start taking surveys online, there are a few things you should know about paid surveys. Here I’m going to give you some tips and tricks I’ve collected about paid surveys. The first part of this article outlines some high-level information you need to know.

Part 1 – Introduction to Paid Surveys

1. Let me start by saying that there are legitimate paid surveys. I personally took surveys from 47 paid survey sites.

2. Never pay to research directories for completely free information on the internet. There are many scams like this, so be careful.

3. Just because a website is heavily publicized doesn’t mean it’s a good website too.

4. Never pay to join a survey site, legitimate paid survey sites are free to join.

5. Some paid survey sites allow members under the age of 13 to join.

6. Legitimate paid survey sites may not advertise other survey sites.

7. Legitimate survey firms will not ask for your social security number.

8. Legitimate survey companies will not try to sell you products.

9. Legitimate research firms will not ask for your bank account number or credit card number.

10. Legitimate paid survey sites do not send spam, only surveys and newsletters.

11. To spot legitimate sites, you should look for the following logos. AMA, BBB, Castro.

12. Genuine survey sites have FAQs, privacy policies, etc. on the first or easy-to-access pages.

13. Paid survey sites are actually market research companies. These companies or conglomerates are very efficient at what they do.

14. Keep abreast of the news around you. Market research firms are assigned new trends and topics, so watch or read the news daily if you can.

15. Taking paid surveys won’t make you rich, but they will bring you some extra cash faster than most Americans can do part-time jobs (hour by hour) right now.

16. Surveys can be conducted at any time of the day or night, as long as you have time to kill and have access to the internet, mobile technology is now available anywhere. Do like a survey respondent.

17. Participating in market research on paid research sites will require you to disclose personal information. If you join legitimate paid survey sites, you are protected.

18. You will have to dedicate time to the survey; I suggest you set aside 1 hour per day.

19. However, lesser-known survey sites will make you more money per survey; lesser-known paid survey sites may also not send as many surveys per month1.

Part Two – Setting Up Your Account.

It is very important to set up your account; this will ensure that everything goes smoothly. Get paid quickly, complete surveys, and qualify.

1. Get organized, this is a very simple process. I created this tutorial to set you up properly.

2. First you need to decide on a specific username and password; it’s easier when all your logins are one username and one password so you don’t forget.

3. Get a new email address through free Gmail or Ymail.

4. Go to the Firefox website and download Mozilla, it’s free.

5. Get the Roboform auto form filler, free unless you want to upgrade (recommended after you get used to things)

6. Set up your Roboform autofiller (using your information)

7. Create a folder on your toolbar (left click on the toolbar and select New Folder) and name it whatever you think is appropriate.

8. Now you need to figure out how many sites you want to join. I recommend starting out with 10 survey sites. Joining 10 survey sites will get about 30 survey invites per week.

9. Remember, the more sites you join and take surveys, the more money you will earn.

10. Join your specific industry or other paid survey sites like Traders, Opinion World Enterprises, or join African American Voices or Hispanic Greenfield, these panels pay more.

12. Remember that what you want to join is a high-quality site, not a junk site.

13. Join the survey site.

14. Some survey sites pay via PayPal. PayPal usually pays faster if you want to set up an account.

15. Whichever site you choose to join, when you’re on their site, click the tab once and drag it to your folder and drop it in. Now you can access your survey site with the click of a button.

16. When you receive a survey, set the sender as a contact so the email doesn’t end up in the spam folder.

17. When you join a survey site, most of the time they will send a confirmation email, be sure to click the link or your account will not be activated.

18. Once you’ve joined the site, you’ll want to return to the site and fill out your profile questions, this will ensure you don’t receive surveys that aren’t yours.

19. After completing the profile questions, double check to make sure your address and contact information are correct. This will ensure you receive your check.

20. When you complete a survey, you can include instructions on completing the survey and when you completed it with the invitation in your email account.

21. After you start receiving emails from the survey site, create a folder for your email invitations. That way, when you need to find information about an investigation, it’s right at your fingertips.

22. Most market research companies don’t need professional surveyors, so never let a survey site know that you’re surveyed by multiple companies. Sometimes you will be asked to conduct accurate surveys at multiple survey sites. I always find it funny, especially when everyone pays differently. Doing the same survey can be boring, but the second and third surveys go much faster.

Part Three – Do your research, what to expect, how much to expect, what you should be doing and what you should be doing.

1. Paid surveys won’t make you rich, but if you keep at it, you can easily make $300 – $600 a month.

2. Most paid survey sites will email you an invitation for a survey they offer that fits the demographic information you provided.

3. Try to complete every survey they send you.

4. Most survey invitations will let you know how much you will earn for the survey and how long it is expected to take to complete.

5. Some surveys reward you with a sweepstakes entry for completing the survey.

6. Sweepstakes surveys are generally shorter and easier to complete.

7. If you complete a sweepstakes survey, some sites will direct you to a higher paying survey.

8. Use the bookmarked Paid Survey Sites folder on the toolbar to log into the paid survey sites you join each day; they will notice activity on your account.

9. The survey has 4 types of questions.

10. The eligibility question usually asks questions like occupation, if you use a product, never select occupation above, and select at least 3 products.

11. Classification questions ask where you live and how much money you make. to be frank.

12. Opinion questions; answer what you think is appropriate, there is no wrong answer.

13. Work hard when completing opinion questions.

14. Be aware in opinion questions that some survey sites put something like choice #3 on a question for quality purposes.

15. Market research sites are in the information business and they want you to give them relevant information when you take a survey, ie I like that magazine cover because of the style of photography.

16. Some surveys will ask you if you have participated in a survey about (example) before. Be sure to confirm that you have not participated in research about (example).

17. Most survey sites have a members area where you can view your stats, survey invites and profile, make sure you are familiar with the layout.

SECTION IV – INVESTIGATION FEES AND TAXES PAID

1. After paying $600 at any 1 survey site, you will receive a 1099 tax form stating your income.

2. Paid survey sites usually pay by check, some are converting to PayPal.

3. When you are away on vacation or unable to participate for 2-3 weeks, please inform the survey site so that your account can remain active.

4. Paid survey sites will sometimes ask you to participate in a focus group, these sites usually pay $50-200, this is not common, but it does happen.

5. Product testing is also something that paid survey sites ask you to participate in; I’ve personally done product testing on different things such as socks, toothbrushes, candy and even air fresheners. These usually pay $10-75.
