How To Get Pregnant When All Hope Seems Lost! Don’t Let Infertility Beat You!
First let me say you are not alone! Your long-awaited child is also waiting for you. God did not punish you. There is nothing wrong with you – this is your first mistake – believing that you are someone who needs to be “fixed”. Without procreation, our world would cease to exist. That’s how you know you’re meant to have a baby. That’s not to say there aren’t families created through adoption, or couples who don’t want to have children. Families come in all different forms. But if you really want to get pregnant, I can help you.
After several years of trying to conceive on our own, we decided to find out why we couldn’t conceive. According to a reproductive endocrinologist, my husband has a low sperm count. It’s so low that we’re told our own chances of conceiving are slim to none. The doctor’s recommendation was to try intrauterine insemination for 6 months. If we’re unlucky, we’ll consider adding fertility drugs.
The first time we did IUI, my husband’s count was 5200 and 60% of the sperm were malformed. A normal sperm count is 20,000. At that time, I knew nothing about infertility. I research ways to increase sperm count and improve sperm health. We tried zinc, B vitamins, and L-carnitine supplements. His sperm count has increased, but only slightly to 7100. Sperm morphology and motility increased by 20%. We were unsuccessful in conceiving using intrauterine insemination.
Even though all my tests came back normal, the doctor decided to put me on Clomiphene. Not knowing much about infertility drugs, I agreed to try the regimen. Clomiphene makes me nauseous, moody, and I have hot flashes all the time. We still haven’t succeeded. After taking clomid for 6 months, the doctor suggested injections. We agreed to try it out of desperation. After spending 6 months and thousands of dollars, I started working on the meds I had been taking. I’m starting to worry about taking infertility pills because according to my blood work I’m ovulating well. It seems like the doctor’s goal is to increase my egg count to increase the target number. I don’t believe this is the answer.
We decided to take a break and reevaluate our lives. Our marriage is tense. It’s hard for me to admit it, but I blame my husband. I think maybe he just doesn’t want it that much. Infertility sufferers become desperate, blaming everyone and everything. Believe me, I get it. I was there. Due to the turmoil in our marriage, we felt it was reasonable to put our dream of having children on hold for now. We decided to commit to our marriage without trying or preventing conception. Sex is fun again. Until then, this is a must-do task. We fell in love again and remembered why we got married in the first place. We continue to pray for our children, but it is not the center of our lives.
Four years later, we felt compelled to decide whether to try again or consider adoption. We found a book that explained the causes of infertility and how to overcome them using ancient Chinese medicine. My husband and I followed it to a tee. Two months later, we went back to the doctor to restart the IUI process, hoping that we would increase his count slightly with these techniques. His semen analysis showed a sperm count of 26,000 with a 75% increase in morphology and motility! This may not seem like a huge increase, but the doctors are excited! They advised us to go ahead with IUI but first they needed to do a blood test on me as I was on day 3 of my cycle which is the perfect time to check a woman’s estrogen levels. We left the doctor’s office for lunch. While we were having lunch, the reproductive endocrinologist called to say she had some very interesting news. Not only did she check the estrogen levels, but she also demanded a full blood work report from me. My HCG level is 966 which indicates a very healthy pregnancy! I was confused because I was on day 3 of my cycle and she replied that many women have implants early in pregnancy that simulate periods. I can’t believe it’s real.
