Tea is quick and easy to prepare and offers a variety of types, flavors and health benefits.
Tea is a healthy beverage with almost no calories, free of salt, fat and sugar. Tea contains important flavonoids and antioxidants that help remove dangerous toxins that can lead to many chronic diseases. There are many types of tea, and their many health benefits are grouped as follows:
black tea: Freshens breath with polyphenols and antioxidants.Helps with Plaque, Dental Problems and Weight Loss
chamomile: From daisy, which helps with sleep, skin conditions, stomach problems, inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBS), dark circles, and PMS
ginger: Reduces inflammation, intestinal swelling, and aids digestion.

One of my favorite tea recipes is called Oooss Juice (for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties):
- Use a high quality, heat-retaining stainless steel 2-4 gallon pot
- Bring a gallon of water to a boil; add half a pound of sliced ginger and squeeze some lemon juice; simmer for five minutes; turn off
- Add 2-6 organic green and white tea bags; steep for 30-60 minutes, then remove
- After 4-12 hours, strain the ginger juice, put the juice in a glass jar, and place in the refrigerator to cool; serve cold or warm
A brief history of tea and its role in America: The Chinese reportedly first used tea 5,000 years ago, and Britain and India revolutionized the tea trade, according to the Tea Association of America. America invented the “tea bag” and “ice tea” and left its mark on the history of tea. Americans consume nearly 80 billion servings of tea each year, 85% of which are iced teas. On an average day, more than 50 percent of Americans drink tea. Research shows that it is low in caffeine and calories:
- In one large study, adults who drank two cups of green tea per day reduced their risk of cardiovascular disease by nearly 25%.
- One study showed that tea drinkers had a 40% lower risk of colon cancer compared to non-tea drinkers. Men who drink more than 1-2 cups of tea a day have a 70% lower risk of colon cancer.
- A recent paper showed that 30,000 adults who drank three or more cups of tea a day had an almost 70% lower risk of developing Parkinson’s disease
- Drinking tea has been shown to increase bone mineral density (BMD) and improve muscle mass, which may help prevent osteoporosis, combined with weight-bearing exercise.
- Theanine, an amino acid found in green and black tea, may help prevent age-related memory decline and Alzheimer’s disease, according to the 2007 Symposium on the Science of Tea and Health.
- Research published by the University of Maryland shows that green and black tea can help prevent atherosclerosis.
- Due to green tea’s antibacterial properties, drinking one or more cups of green tea per day can significantly reduce the risk of tooth loss and plaque
- A Chinese study was recently published in Internal Medicine Archives Compared with non-tea drinkers, regular drinkers of oolong or green tea had a 46%-65% lower risk of developing high blood pressure.
There are countless health benefits of drinking tea. It’s cheap, easy to make, comes in a variety of flavors and types, and it’s simply delicious! Drinking hot, freshly brewed tea should be considered part of your daily diet.
