On top of that, not only do we gain weight and feel anxious about making New Year’s resolutions, but we also feel less confident and sexy about our bodies because we haven’t taken care of ourselves.
Here are some simple tips you can do to minimize weight gain, stay in shape and feel good during the holidays:
- Instead of trying to find an hour to go to the gym, find 15 minutes to exercise and you’ll be glad you did. Something is better than nothing. Research shows that when you exercise, no matter how much or how long you exercise, you feel better about yourself.
- Set aside a few minutes each day for “me time.” With all the extra activities and shopping around the holiday season, sometimes the last thing we want is to take a quick break. However, it’s what we need most during busy and stressful times.
- drink your water. As the temperature drops, it’s easy to forget to drink H2O. But your body still needs as much water as it does when you sweat in the summer. This will also help with digestion and give you more energy.
- Have a cookie, but also make sure to have a piece of fruit beforehand. Eat something wholesome before indulging in something sweet.
- Break up your workouts. Lift weights for five minutes one day, do lunges the next, and so on. Small bouts of exercise keep your body moving and signal that you’re still active, even with the extra calories.
- do what you want. With so many invitations, seemingly “obligatory” events and family gatherings, it’s easy to feel trapped and out of control of your schedule. But, your life is your life, so do what you want. It’s not the end of the world if you leave a party early or don’t make it to a friend’s cookie baking night.
