Candidates should first gather some free study materials from the internet and follow the instructions and tips given there on how to write an essay. But this is not a skill that can be developed without expert help, because in addition to writing essays in the correct format, candidates also need to know how to use various vocabulary correctly to write complex sentences without errors. The execution of grammar skills is an important factor. Essay writing belongs to Task 2, and candidates are required to write at least 250 words, with almost no spelling mistakes, and at the same time pursue a high Band Score.

  1. Candidates should study at least one “High Standard Essay Book” to gather sufficient knowledge on how to write a high-quality, well-structured essay.
  2. Candidates should always follow the basic structure of an IELTS-related essay.
  3. Candidates taking IELTS should be aware that he has a maximum of 40 minutes to write the essay and check for mistakes as there is no extra time.
  4. After being given permission to open the exam paper, candidates should scan the questions and spend no more than 5 minutes thinking about the structure of the essay.
  5. Candidates should keep in mind the three main components of a dissertation, namely (1) Introduction. (2) The text of the thesis. (3) Conclusion.
  6. The candidate should make the “Introduction” section short but descriptive, he should briefly introduce the topic of the paper and narrate what he will be writing about.
  7. The body text should not contain more than 2 paragraphs. Each paragraph should contain a central idea and some sentences that support that idea.
  8. Since the topic of the essay should contain an idea in favor of it and an idea against it. For example, “strengths and weaknesses” or “strengths and weaknesses”. Candidates should write “Advantages or Benefits” in one paragraph and “Disadvantages or Disadvantages” in another paragraph. The use of complex sentences should be very explicit.
  9. Candidates are not allowed to write more than two or three sentences in the “Conclusion” section. The best way to do this is to state his point of view in the concluding section. It means that, according to him, the advantages should be counted, or he thinks that the disadvantages are of great concern, and the advantages are offset.
  10. Usually, the composition question is asked in the form of: Do you agree or disagree? or a statement of pros and cons or causal relationship. Candidates should also prepare themselves for different types of dissertations.
  11. Candidates should be aware that his essay will be scored for him taking into account: (1) task response, (2) coherence, (3) coherence and (4) range and accuracy of grammar application. Negligent attention to any of the above points may result in a 25% deduction of points. At the same time, candidates should keep in mind that timing is a critical factor that requires expertise to handle.
  12. Maintaining all the standards required to write a dissertation in a foreign language is not just anyone’s job, it does require rigorous practice to keep time and of course expert help.
  13. Although candidates are required to write a “minimum” of 250 words, there is a hidden point. A candidate cannot write as many words as he wants at will. The maximum length of the essay should be between 270 and 280 words. Writing too many words (50 words or more) will result in loss of points.
  14. A candidate should remember that he should write exactly what he is asked to do. For example: “Prolonged TV viewing can be harmful to children in a number of ways”. Do you agree or disagree? Candidates are asked to write “whether it is harmful to children in multiple ways”. If a candidate discusses “prolonged viewing of television is harmful” as a general point, but skips the actual point “is harmful to children in many ways”, he will definitely lose points.
  15. Candidates are not allowed to copy complete sentences from the question and write them down in his answer.
  16. Candidates will be judged on how well they connect sentences and ideas.
  17. Proper linking of passages is important, it can become a stumbling block and cost candidates points.
  18. While the “vocabulary resources” are commendable, candidates do not need to write “exaggerated/complex and rarely used words”. This will certainly not impress the examiner. For example, if you replace “Repeated” with the word “Ingeminated”, you don’t expect to get any extra credit for it, since it’s pretty much an unknown word.
  19. It is not advisable to use the same word repeatedly; instead, candidates should use synonyms, which will impress the examiner from the perspective of “vocabulary range”.
  20. If the examinee can’t use the complete sentence correctly, and “complete the sentence is the task”, he will be deducted points.

More small points related to this topic could be discussed. But these are the keys to writing a well-written essay for the IELTS test. No additional credits required. You can get the most out of your IELTS Writing test(s) if you take your preparation seriously, take expert help or go to a reputable IELTS test center and practice and follow all the dos and don’ts of IELTS composition and study good composition books.
