Virginia Car Insurance Guide- Minimum Required Coverage, Cheap Rates, and How to Find the Best Quote

How to Find the Cheapest Virginia Car Insurance Rates? Which is the best auto insurance company in Virginia? What are the minimum auto insurance requirements in Virginia? These are the basic questions that must be answered if they want to get the best auto insurance in Virginia. Read on to learn about some of Virginia’s common auto insurance rules and find out some ways to get low-cost Virginia auto insurance for you and your family.

Car insurance in the United States is something most people understand by now. However, many questions often remain unanswered. Why do some peers pay lower premiums than others? Why do people who own older cars tend to pay lower interest rates than those who own brand new cars? Why do urbanites pay more for car insurance than ruralites? The answers to all of these questions somehow explain what the car insurance business is all about: “risk.”

Auto insurance consists of an agreement signed between a company and the insured in which the auto insurance agency will pay the policyholder in exchange for monthly payments in the event of an accident. In other words, the insurance company is taking the “risk” of driving on American roads for the insured. Because some areas have more accidents than others, some cars require less insurance than others, and some vehicles have higher levels of safety and theft resistance; premiums in the auto insurance business tend to vary from person to person.

The same can be assumed for each state. While some states have the advantage of not having large cities with high accident rates, others have a large number of densely populated areas with high rates of accidents and theft. Virginia is one of the states that sits in the middle of both categories. While it does have some major cities like Richmond, it offers its residents a quiet and peaceful place to live like Williamsburg.

According to the US Census Bureau, Virginia’s 2007 population was estimated at 7,642,884 (an increase of 8 percent since 2006), and experts predict it will continue to grow. Population size doesn’t seem to matter that much because back in 2003 Virginia was on the low end when it came to auto insurance as the average premium was $752 $914 per month compared to the national average.

All states in this country require drivers to have a minimum amount of coverage before they have the privilege of driving on the roads of this great country. Virginia is no exception, and in the event of an accident in the state, someone must always be found at fault. This means that the person found to be responsible for the accident and their insurance company will be responsible for paying the costs associated with the accident. The state mandates what they call 25/50/20 coverage, which is somewhere in the middle compared to other states. This means that in Virginia, the motorists must be covered for $25,000 in bodily injury each, and a total of $50,000 in bodily injury in the event of an accident; and $20,000 in property damage liability coverage in the event of an accident. Remember, these are only the minimum coverages required to drive in the state, and you can purchase coverage above these amounts from Virginia Auto Insurance if you wish.

Virginia law does not mandate that individuals obtain personal injury protection, or PIP, like the laws of many other states. Personal injury protection is always a good thing to have after a car accident to help you and the passengers in your car with medical bills. On the other hand, the state does require a person to have uninsured and underinsured motorist insurance to prevent this from happening. Drivers must have uninsured motorist insurance of $25,000 each and $50,000 total in order for them to drive on the state’s streets.

If you’re a resident of Virginia, this may sound like a lot of essential coverage you need, but keep in mind that average premiums are well below the national average. Not everyone in Virginia is able to purchase the minimum coverage the state mandates. People who are leasing or still paying for their vehicles will be forced to take out collision and comprehensive insurance. This is due to the same “risk” of driving-related accidents and theft.

However, people who have to buy more than the stated coverage can try lowering the deductible to get lower premiums. Lower deductibles lead to higher out-of-pocket costs for drivers in the event of an accident. This means that when a driver is involved in an accident, the car insurance company pays less, so your policy rates are lower.

Policyholders can also refuse to purchase or simply forego coverage they don’t necessarily need. Medical coverage for auto insurance is a good example. If you have stand-alone health insurance and you know the medical portion of your policy won’t cover anything your health insurance policy doesn’t cover, it’s time to remove the medical portion of your auto insurance policy.

Virginia is a great state to live in and even own a vacation home. The cost of living in the state itself is not high when it comes to auto insurance. There are a number of ways in-state residents can save some money when it comes to auto insurance; however, what matters most is the coverage you need. Lowering your deductible and getting rid of excess coverage can help you save money on auto insurance. After all, you’ll find that living in Virginia and driving a vehicle in the state is not as expensive as it seems.
