2007 Hyundai Cars – What’s New For 2007
(1) 2007 Hyundai Sonata
The 2007 Sonata is the smaller of Hyundai’s two midsize sedans. It comes in three trims: a) Sonata Limited trim is the top model, with a 235 hp V6 and 5-speed automatic transmission along with heated front seats, automatic climate control and fine leather upholstery. b) The Sonata SE is also available with a 235 hp V6 engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. c) The Sonata GLS has a 162 hp 4-cylinder engine with a choice of 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. All models get ABS and traction/anti-skid control as well as front side and side curtain airbags.
While the older version stylistically reminded many car buyers of a Jaguar, the 2007 version looks better, with headlights similar to an Audi and a rear that looks like an Accord. The slender roof pillars and the driver’s upright stance also contribute to its aesthetic value. The 2007 Sonata is also bigger, sharper and more technologically advanced than the 2006 model. Overall, the Sonata’s advantage over other similar vehicles like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima is its combination of comfort, roominess, refined design, and reliable performance at a reasonable price.
(2) Modern Accent
The completely redesigned 3-door Hyundai Accent hatchback is a welcome addition to the 2006 4-door sedan. Compared with the sedan, the Accent is sportier both in appearance and performance. It also boasts side-curtain airbags, a rarity for a vehicle of this size and price range.
The 2007 Accent has excellent handling, an attractive Euro hatch and a robust safety package. Sold in GE and SE trims, the Accent may look small on the outside, but it’s surprisingly roomy inside, both front and rear. Its excellent fuel economy makes it ideal for urban drivers, especially where gas prices top $6/gallon. Many have commented that the Accent 3-door 2007 model is more attractive than the 4-door 2006 Accent sedan introduced last year. The 2007 model is reminiscent of the three-door Honda Civic CX hatchback of the mid-nineties or the GM Opel Corsa so popular in Europe today.
(3) Hyundai Elantra
Many auto industry watchers consider the 2007 Hyundai Elantra a worthy challenger to the subcompact segment that includes the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra. It’s competitive in safety, roominess, and overall driving experience, and may have a slight edge in value and warranty coverage. However, its conservative styling needs to catch up to the rest of the segment.
The 2007 Elantra has plenty of airbags in the front seats and in the roof side curtains, which apply to both the front and rear seats. It also has anti-lock brakes and four-wheel disc brakes, far superior to the front disc and rear drum brakes of its competitors.
(4) Hyundai Tiburon
Redesigned for 2007, the Tiburon now features lower headlights, a hallmark of more mainstream models in Japan, along with improved taillights and chrome tailpipes. It also has a new sheetmetal frame with a more wedge-like mainstream look, a far cry from the odd-looking, curvaceous Tiburon first introduced in the US in 1997.
The handling of the top Tiburon SE has also been simplified to make it smoother and more appealing to enthusiasts.
(5) Hyundai Santa Fe
With the unibody structure of a car, rather than the traditional body-on-frame structure of a regular truck, the Hyundai Santa Fe is more of a “crossover SUV.” The 2007 version has been completely redesigned and is now bigger and better, with more power, more legroom and more refined style.
Unlike last year’s model, the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe blends naturally into the Suburban. Its new third row of seats allows the 2007 Santa Fe to accommodate up to seven passengers. It also offers improved fuel economy and power, whether in GLS, SE or Limited trim.
(6) Hyundai Yazun
This year’s Azera benefits from subtle changes to interior details to increase its aesthetic value. It’s actually a continuation of last year’s model, with a standard 3.8-liter V6 making 263 horsepower and a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan is available in 4 trims, from SE to Limited XM.
(7) Hyundai Tucson
The Tucson is another highly regarded 2007 model from Hyundai, notably the 2006 Tucson which won the prestigious JD Power and Associates Award for “Highest Ranked Utility Vehicle for Initial Quality,” even though it was only in its second year of production.
The Tucson outperformed its competitors in the multi-purpose vehicle (MAV) segment on average in six of eight categories, according to a study of more than 63,000 new car owners. Overall, the Tucson scored 23 percent above the category average. It also scored high marks for safety tech, electronic stability control, curtain airbags and offering a choice between front- and four-wheel drive.
(8) Modern Entourage
When it comes to standard safety features, the Hyundai Entourage stands far above other minivans on the market today. It’s no surprise that the 2007 Entourage received the highest and best crash-test ratings for a minivan from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Safety and comfort features on the Entourage include six airbags, standard ABS, standard electronic stability control and standard active head restraints. Plus, the Entourage has plenty of room to spare, including seating for seven and a huge cargo space.
