Barbados Travel Tips – Things You Must Know Before You Go
Wherever you travel, there are travel secrets. This article will tell you the key travel things you should know before traveling to Barbados. Don’t miss the travel guide at the end of the article!
Barbados is a beautiful island and a great vacation destination. It is one of the best islands in the Caribbean.
The currency of Barbados is the Barbados Dollar or Barbados. It’s $1.98. So basically $20 in Barbados is about $10, give or less.
cost of goods
Goods and services don’t come cheap in Barbados. They are approximately equivalent to US goods or services.
A full dinner for two with wine will set you back $100. Souvenir T-shirts $20-$35, towels, mugs, etc $10-$14.
Naturally, since it’s pretty much anywhere you travel, domestic goods are much cheaper than imported goods.
To, from and during your stay in Barbados
When you arrive in Barbados at the airport and collect your luggage, you will walk out of the terminal to take buses, taxis and shuttles. It is best to pre-arrange the shuttle to and from the hotel. A taxi from the airport will cost US$20-60, depending on the distance to the hotel and the size of the taxi required. The shuttle will charge for surfboard bags and some other large oversized items. Do not pay more than $5.
If you rent a car, it will cost around $50-60 per day. Don’t let anyone charge you more. If you are from the United States and plan to rent a car while in Barbados, please remember that you will have to drive yourself. It may sound simple, but the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car, and the car is driving on the wrong side of the ride. It takes a little getting used to, but it’s an adventure!
Barbados is a British colonial island and therefore embraces British conservatism when it comes to dress. Daytime attire is casual tropical travel beach attire. In the evening and dinner, men wear long trousers and collared shirts, while women wear dresses and skirts. Due to the weather, it is best to use lightweight materials.
Barbadians, or Bajans, as they are more commonly seen on the island, dress smart casual most of the time. In this city, business attire is the norm for locals, with many men wearing ties and even jackets.
Dress is inappropriate for beach shopping. Bathing suits and bathing suits are reserved for the beach and beach bars.
Barbados has some great restaurants. The Cliff Restaurant is one of the best restaurants on the island. As you can imagine from the name, the view is very beautiful. The restaurant is located on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea.
In St. Lawrence Gap, Bellini’s is great. It’s in a bay with boats and it’s beautiful at sunset. Salmon is my favorite.
Most hotels will have a book of restaurants on the island in their lobby area or concierge desk. It will have pictures of the restaurant and a menu with prices. This is a great way to choose where you want to dine during your stay.
There are a variety of hotels to choose from. It all depends on how much you want to spend.
If you’re looking for a bargain, try Sandy Bay Beach Club. The hotel itself is fine, 3 stars. But the staff are very friendly and helpful and the beach in front of the hotel is probably the best on the island. It’s all-inclusive, so all meals, alcohol, gratuities, and non-motorized sports are included. That makes it an excellent deal.
Breakfast and lunch are served as a buffet, with a snack bar in between. Dinner is your choice of buffet style or 5-course dinner at the restaurant, reservation required. When you ask, they tell you they have reservations for the restaurant, but you can go in anytime. Just ask what time you can come in and see if there are cancellations or if you can try to come in the last seat at 8:30pm.
Enjoy scuba diving, kayaking and paddle boats, all included. An hour’s massage at the spa is only $65. For $5, you can set up a giant umbrella on the sand next to your lounge chair. The activity center offers a $50 turtle and wreck snorkel tour. This is a great boat trip and the cost is very reasonable.
If you are trying to book this hotel, use www.cheapcaribean.com, you may get a better rate.
The Hilton is a gorgeous hotel on a peninsula, so the view from every window is clear blue water.
This hotel has all the amenities, valet parking, room service, dive excursions, restaurants, bars, spa, pool, kids programs, everything you could possibly need.
Room rates range from $450 to $1500 per night.
This is a beautiful hotel and if you have some money for a nice holiday then this is the place for you. In fact, you don’t even need to leave the hotel very much. You can enjoy the views, the pool and the beach while being just a short walk from all the amenities of the property.
If cost is not an issue, Sand Lane Hotel is the place to stay. This was the venue for the Tiger Woods wedding and it was breathtaking.
This hotel is great. This is by far the most luxurious hotel on the island. You name it and it’s done. Spa, golf, horseback riding, five-star dining, concierge service, limousine from the airport. They will have it or find it for you.
Kids have a camp-style center called the Treehouse Club. It’s a kids dream with arts and crafts, movies, pool time. It’s also always a time for parents to have some alone time during the holidays. They also have a den for teens away from parents and kids.
Room rates range from $850 to $10,000 per night.
Snorkel with turtles and shipwrecks
Catamaran and boat snorkeling tours are available across the island. The snorkeling turtle tour is nice, but you may or may not see turtles in the water. Keep an eye out as you might see some on the boat.
The wreck snorkeling is beautiful. There are plenty of colorful fish and clear water. There’s an old shipwreck, and then a newer man-made shipwreck where they sank a party boat that, while less realistic, attracted some exotic sea life.
If there’s one thing you want to get out and do in Barbados, it’s a game reserve. It’s on the northern tip of the island, and you can take a 4×4 Adventure Tour, taxi, or rent a car. That’s 3 times the value of the $13 entry fee.
When you walk in, there are giant turtles everywhere. The main area of the reserve is free of cages. Only snakes, pythons and iguanas are kept in separate areas. Monkeys, rabbits and other wild animals run free. The sanctuary is shaded by rainforest-like trees and vines, which hang and provide swinging tools for the monkeys. You follow a brick path through the reserve. There was even a crocodile in the pond, the walls were so high that it couldn’t escape.
This is a unique experience not to be missed.
Atlantis Submarine Tour
If you choose to take a submarine tour, please book at www.magicaljourneys.com. They offer discounts, including some 2-for-1 pre-order deals. That means $90 for two people, not $180.
Other attractions on the island include rum tasting tours, exploring caves, golf and horseback riding.
Important travel tips:
– Check the weather before you travel and learn how to pack
– You can search and claim your unclaimed money to add extra pocket money to your travels!
– Use traveler’s cheques. If they are lost or stolen, most banks, service bureaus and a large number of merchants can usually replace them within 24 hours from almost anywhere in the world
– Do not leave valuables in the hotel room, or if you choose to activate and use the safe in the closet.
– Don’t call home from your hotel room. You can walk into some stores, dial from their computer, talk through the handset, and call home for $0.50 a minute. Hotels will charge you $5.00-$35.00 to connect, then $2.90-$7.90 per minute! If you use your cell phone, it might cost you $2-$5 per minute.
– Travel with great people and have fun!
