Like many New Jersey coastal communities with large stretches of sandy beaches, this coastal area comes alive in the summer. It’s hard to find a place to drop your towels on the beach in the middle of the week on a weekend. What else makes this place so popular? There are more than a few reasons.
Seaside Heights is easily accessible, within a few hours’ drive of most people in New Jersey, New York City, and Philadelphia. All you need to do is leave the Garden State Parkway at Exit 82 and head east on Route 37 through Barnegat Bay and you will be in Seaside. Once you arrive, you can find rooms at many hotels and motels. One of them appeared on The Apprentice TV show as it got a makeover as part of an assignment by one of the show’s team. Another option for accommodation is to rent a house. That’s what the MTV reality show was all about years ago. It was a huge hit, attracting young people to visit for many years after it aired.
Besides the beach, another big attraction here is the mile-long boardwalk. It features games of chance, arcades, rides, shops, food outlets and bars. One arcade houses a historic carousel built nearly a hundred years ago. You’ll also find video games, pinball machines, games of mechanical skill, slider ball and video poker machines. Games of chance include wheels (pick a number!), games of skill (like throwing a ball through a hoop), and other challenges where you can take home prizes if you win. The rides are divided into two parts. They offer adult rides, amusement parks, dark rides, and plenty of kiddie rides.
There is a massive fireworks display on the 4th of July and every Wednesday night through August. Other events are held throughout the year – St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Easter egg hunt, music festivals, car shows and more. Many activities are free.
With so much to do in Seaside Heights, all kinds of people come to enjoy all that this small town has to offer. There are a lot of teens and early 20s, but also a lot of people who bring their kids here so they can enjoy the beach, rides, and arcades. If you’ve never been, you should travel one day and see why so many people visit every summer.
