Not only will this make the child feel important, but learning the task will become a much-needed skill in real life. Use real-life money and budgeting examples as you learn math, and even balance your checkbook. Use graphs and charts to set goals for money earned and savings. Reading about science from textbooks is one way to learn about the subject, but doing experiments or identifying specimens in nature is more engaging. Daily and weekly chores are necessary to learn the responsibilities and obligations of being an integral part of the family.
Remember to always imitate what you want to teach. Learn new topics together. Dissect a grasshopper for science, create a household budget together, and more. Homeschooling allows parents to design a curriculum that works for their child. Find out your preteen’s strengths and weaknesses and plan your lessons around these.
Homeschooling and Socialization:

No wonder homeschooled kids have higher self-esteem; kids at home are learning kindness, patience, sharing, respect, and understanding. These homeschooled children are free from peer influence that fosters peer dependence. Peer-dependent children exhibit diminished positive socialization, such as self-worth, self-confidence, respect for parents, and trust in peers. Although homeschooled children may play with other children in the neighborhood and experience this peer dependency, strong morals and values are being taught at home to overcome these negative experiences.
Homeschooled children learn to listen to their instincts and let them guide them in making their own decisions. Conforming to peer social groups that do not value individuality will not develop the independent thinking that is necessary for a successful life.
