Here I Am – Three Very Simple Words – But They Can Mean So Much When Sincerely Spoken

I am here. Three simple words – “I am here” – they mean – I am available – I am available to listen – I am available and would like to hear what you have to say to me – and you must be to me the words said.

When we say these words, we never know where they will lead – or what the consequences will be – yes, even in 2021.

When we hear God’s voice – when we know it’s God speaking to me – and do something to grab my attention – grab my life – and my talents and gifts, we what will do

What happens when I say “here I am” to God?

1 – I may make sacrifices I never thought I could make. This may not be the best place to start the message – maybe it should start with a blessing – but it is a blessing! Look at Abraham again – God tested Abraham after some time. Say to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. Offer him up as a burnt offering on a mountain I will tell you about.” Genesis 22 v. 1 and 2.

God tests us not to grade us – but to grow us – and develop us.

Matthew 10:39 – Whoever finds his life will lose it; whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. This is the principle of the cross. I give up something for something better. God rewards it in ways we can’t even imagine—but it begins with sacrifice.

Jacob gave up his plans- Joseph gave up his dreams- Moses gave up Pharaoh’s palace- David gave up his desire to build a temple for God- Matthew gave up his job as a tax collector- Peter gave up his web- Paul gave up his religion – Mary gave up her son. They both gave something—they both knew something about sacrifice—and then, God gave something back.

Can we miss the sacrifice part – no! We gave up control, and God got control—God did something.

Romans 12:1: I beseech you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

2 – “Here I am” – means I am facing a fear that I don’t think I will ever be able to face.

Jacob – he wrestled with God – his name means “conspirator” – but later, God gave him a new name – Israel.

In the evening, God spoke to the Israelites in a vision, “Jacob! Jacob!” “Here I am,” he replied. “I am God, your father’s God,” he said. “Go down to Egypt and do not be afraid, for I will make you a great nation there. I will go down with you to Egypt and I will surely bring you back.” Genesis 46 verses 2-4.

This is where he should never be!

What is the one thing I never want to do? Where is the place I never want to go?

3 – “Here I am” – I saw a miracle I thought I would never see.

Moses – When the Lord saw him go and look, he called out from the bush, “Moses, Moses!” Moses said, “Here I am.” “Come no further,” said God. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you stand is holy.” Exodus 3:4

40 years in Pharaoh’s palace – 40 years in the wilderness herding sheep.

Moses Asked 4 Questions – Who Am I? who are you? where are they? how about this? The problem – my weakness – the struggle?

Remember and think about the miracles Moses saw over the years.

4 – “I’m here” – I hear a message I never thought I’d hear.

1 Samuel 3 verse 4 – Samuel – The Lord called Samuel. Samuel replied, “Here I am.” When God speaks to you, it may sound like someone else—or it may sound like someone else—not you.

The voice of God – the calling of God – can disrupt your plans – and hopes – and ambitions.

5 – “Here I am” – I went to a place I never thought I would go.

Isaiah 6:8 – Isaiah had this vision – He heard this voice – Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Who shall I send? Who will go for us?” So I say , “Here I am. Send me!”

We tend to say — “That’s a good question — I’ll think about it — I’ll bring it up at some point. I’ll get someone to consult on that.”

God doesn’t do that – God doesn’t need counseling – He needs obedient servants.

6 – “Here I am” – I believe in a promise I never thought I could believe.

Luke 1 v35, 37 and 38 – Think Mary.

The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the Holy One who will be born will be called the Son of God. For nothing is impossible with God.” “I am the servant of the Lord, ’ replied Mary. “May I be as you say.”

It was the promise of the virgin birth—Mary was about 14 or 15 years old—and she was betrothed to Joseph. This sentence is slightly different than “I’m here” – but the emotion is the same.

Some may think they are sinful and therefore unworthy – others may think they have failed, or made too many mistakes or have too many flaws.

“I’m a loser – I’ve always been a loser – I’ll never be anything – and I’ll never make a difference in my life.”

This is no longer the case when we say “here I am” to God when He calls.

7 – I serve someone I never thought I could serve.

Acts 9 verses 10 and 11 – Ananias There was a disciple of Jesus in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to Ananias in a vision, “Ananias!”

Ananias answered, “Lord, here I am.” The Lord said to him, “Get up, go to Straight Street, and find the house of Judah, and find a man named Saul from the city of Tarsus.”

At that time, Ananias didn’t know how the story would end—we did. Ananias was involved with Saul at the beginning of his Christian life. Ananias had to confront Saul of Tarsus—and serve Saul of Tarsus. Saul was healed — and Saul was baptized — because Ananias went to minister.

8 – I have found a joy I never thought I would find – Jesus.

It’s actually Jesus who found us — people might say at first they found God, or they found Jesus — but before long they realized it was Jesus who came to us — and called us. That’s what the resurrection is all about – that he can come into any church – into any life by the Spirit.

Revelation 3:20 is all about Jesus wanting to come into the church—to be allowed into His church! “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.”

I am available – I am willing to listen – I am willing to serve – I am willing to trust – I am willing to go.

“Here I am”—willing to sacrifice—I have the strength and courage to face my fears.

“Here I am” – ready to see miracles – hear a message I never thought I would hear – do things I never thought I could do.

“Here I am” – ready to trust God’s promises – maybe serve someone I thought I would never serve – enjoy the joy of being in Jesus Christ, and all of God’s other blessings.

January 2021 – “Here I am” – When God Calls – When Jesus Chooses – It is because there is a very real need – He wants you to be a part of His Plan and Purpose.

Answer seriously.
