Three Beef Stew Recipes
All three of these beef stews have two things in common. They are all delicious and make a perfect Sunday family meal.
Bavarian Beef Stew
Ingredients
1 +1/2 lbs. lean beef stew meat (cut into bite-sized pieces)
1/2 small head of red cabbage (cut into 4 pieces)
1 medium onion (sliced)
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 spoon of sugar
1 + 1/2 cup of water
1 tablespoon of cumin seeds
1/4 cup of white vinegar
1/3 cup crushed ginger snaps
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 bay leaf
Preparation
In a large pan, brown the meat in the olive oil. Remove the meat from the pan and use the pan to sauté the onions in the remaining olive oil in the pan.
Add the meat to the onion in the pan and add one cup of water and the spices.
Bring the meat mixture to a boil, reduce the heat, cover the pan and cook for one hour.
Add the white vinegar and sugar to the meat mixture. Arrange the cabbage over the meat, cover the pan and cook for 30 more minutes on low heat.
Place the cabbage in a dish to keep warm.
Strain the drippings and remove excess fat from the beef. Add the remaining half cup of water, return the drippings with the meat and cabbage to the pan with the ginger crumbs.
Cook stirring for 10 to 15 minutes.
Complete Beef Stew Meal
2 pounds of lean beef tenderloin
4 cups of water
1- 16 ounce bag of baby carrots
6 medium potatoes (bite-sized pieces)
3 celery stalks (chopped)
3/4 cup yellow sweet onion (chopped)
2 packages of dry onion soup mix
1 cup of frozen or canned corn
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine the water and 2 packages of dry onion soup mix. Stir with a whisk until well mixed.
Place the beef tenderloins in a 9X13 baking dish. Add the potatoes, carrots, celery, corn and onion.
Pour the water and onion soup mixture over the top.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 2 hours. Services 4
Marinated BBQ Style Beef Stew
Ingredients
2 pounds eye of the round roast (cut into 1-inch strips)
2 cups of water
3 cups homemade barbecue sauce (see recipe below)
Barbecue Sauce
Ingredients
1 – 12 ounce can of tomato sauce
1/2 cup of ketchup
1 tablespoon dried ground mustard
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of onion salt
1/2 cup of honey
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
1 teaspoon of black pepper
1 teaspoon of salt
Preparation
In a large saucepan, combine all the ingredients, bring to a slow boil, simmer for 10 minutes.
Beef Stew Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Pour the 2 cups of water into the bottom of the roasting tin.
Place the eye of the round roast in the pan.
Pour the barbecue sauce over the top of the roast and cook for 2 to 2.5 hours.
These three beef stew meals can also be placed in a crockpot and cooked on medium for 8 hours. Serve with warm fresh bread.
