I think it’s important to limit the amount of screen time, and get them to go out to play and burn off some energy. It’s easy to limit screen time by using some cell phone technology and a little effort on the part of the parent.

So how can childhood obesity be treated without a doctor? Using simple structured healthy nutrition. Children will follow their parents’ lead on what to eat, so it’s important as parents to set good examples of what they should eat each day.

Try using free mobile apps to track their calories, and log their exercise to make sure they’re keeping to their daily goal. Real change doesn’t happen overnight, but it does require the parent to set the proper expectation with their children. Children learn by example, so if you as a parent live a healthy lifestyle, then you children are more likely to do the same.

Many parents complain that feeding their children healthy food is too expensive. These are typically the same parents who buy fast food using the drive-thru routinely. Healthy eating does not have to be a time-consuming, nor an expensive activity. Yes, it’s a lifestyle change, but it’s for the longevity of YOUR LIFE.

Eating a healthy, well-balanced meal shouldn’t cost more than ten ($10) dollars a day if you do it right. Remember that a healthy weight is achieved through 95% diet, and 5% exercise.
