How to Ensure a Smooth Delivery

Most articles on the internet and elsewhere describe the phase of pregnancy and the process of childbirth as tedious. When in fact, all you have to do is keep calm, follow a healthy diet and fervently follow your doctor’s instructions to get through everything smoothly. A well-balanced diet during pregnancy should consist of proteins, vitamin C, calcium, iron, folic acid and adequate fat.

Delivery as a physiological process, is simply designed. The body goes through many changes during the last week of pregnancy. The cervix softens. There is a release of oxytocin and catecholamines during the process. Oxytocin facilitates the separation and delivery of the placenta. Women are blessed with maternal instincts. They automatically tend to push the baby south during delivery. The baby is born alert and calm with high levels of catecholamines and endorphins.

It is important that you are as calm and composed as possible during the handover. Remember, panicking will only make the situation worse. It’s okay to feel stressed and various other emotions during labor. The key to getting through the anxiety is to constantly tell yourself that you will get through everything smoothly. Nothing works better than constantly encouraging you through everything. Tell yourself that you have passed nine months of pregnancy and you are only a few hours away from the moment when you finally look at your baby’s face.

Make sure someone close, preferably your partner, accompanies you during the delivery. Also, make sure you don’t have too many people around you during the delivery as it can cause a lot of unnecessary chaos. It’s very normal to throw up or poop while you’re delivering the baby. More often than not, you wouldn’t even know if you pooped because the nurses usually wipe it up before you know it.

After you finish delivering the baby, you would become an emotional wreck. One moment you would feel like a queen with all the attention you would get from the people around you and the next moment you would want to be alone with the baby. It’s good to feel these emotions that are mostly indescribable. You would drift from one mood to another and have no idea why. Remind yourself that you’ve been through a lot of stress physically and mentally, and it’s okay to react in a certain way.

Don’t over think your delivery as it will only make you more nervous than necessary. Understand that a woman’s body is designed in a certain way so that she can withstand the pain of pregnancy. There is no set way by which you can know your baby’s due date. However, there are many calculators available online to find out the trial expiry date, or your doctor can help you with the same.

Bringing a new life into this world is a feeling that is cherished for a lifetime. Make sure you don’t miss the special moments that follow this nine months of pregnancy guide.
